The Customer
Our customer is a recognizable brand in the
ultra-competitive pet care industry, particularly
known for its innovative, technology-enabled dog
collars. The brand was ready to build on its national
direct-to-consumer customer base by also selling
through the likes of Amazon, Chewy, and other
mass online retailers. But first, the company needed
a reliable logistics partner with well-established
warehouse operations, experience servicing large
brands, and the procedures and processes in place to
quickly scale up with all systems go from the start.
The Challenge
Before turning to CDS, our now-customer was
working with a logistics provider that the brand’s
founders knew personally and previously brought
onboard during the early startup phase. As the brand
grew, it became clear that a change was necessary
to unleash serious growth. The previous provider
was struggling to provide the required turnaround
times and support the growing volume of
inventory and orders.
The brand’s trajectory called for a partner with
established industry relationships and cutting-edge
technology, capable of handling the company’s
warehousing and e-commerce needs to get orders
from the warehouse to customers’ doorsteps in the
shortest time possible, while maintaining accuracy
and brand image. Without that dependability and
scalability in place, exponential growth was confined
to being more of a long-term goal rather than
an immediate initiative.
The Solution
Recognizing the window of opportunity for the
customer to achieve a level of success that many
e-commerce brands can only dream of, CDS quickly
implemented specialized solutions to elevate the
customer’s entire operational ecosystem.
Our e-commerce logistics experts introduced
customized pick-and-pack processes to increase
product flow. Our large-scale material handling
equipment, including forklifts, turret trucks, and
conveyor systems, made an immediate impact in
streamlining inventory management and enabling
same-day shipping turnaround. Orders received
by 11 a.m. ship by 3 p.m.
During onboarding, we tailored our Warehouse
Management System (WMS) based on the customer’s
preferences. EDI, or electronic data interchange,
helps automate the flow of information between
their internal team and ours, so we can accurately
share info related to orders, invoices, transportation
details, and other important documents. The customer
has full visibility, in real time.
From there, we’ve been able to flex our
South Brunswick, New Jersey warehouse space in
tune with peak sales periods. The customer benefits
from shared labor with our other customers, creating
cost savings in the process. If or when they want to
expand westward to shorten delivery times to regions
outside the Northeast, our Midwest and California
facilities are ready for the call.
